At Impact the Palm Beaches, our mission is to fund high-impact initiatives that create real change in our community. Thanks to your generous support, we are making a difference for those in need. One of our recent grant recipients, The Lord’s Place, has already made remarkable strides with the funding we provided for Project Divert, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at preventing homelessness by intervening before individuals enter the shelter system.
A Measurable Impact on Homelessness Prevention
Since the launch of Project Divert, The Lord’s Place has exceeded expectations, already serving 157 individuals—a 51% increase over the initial goal of 104 clients for this stage of the project. Through the diligent work of their diversion case manager, 84 households have successfully avoided homelessness and emergency shelter stays.
The project is not only helping individuals in crisis but also contributing to a University of Notre Dame-led research study on the effectiveness and cost-benefit of homeless shelter diversion services. The data collected through this initiative will inform future policies and funding for homelessness prevention nationwide.
Success Story: Marvin’s Journey to Safety
One of the most compelling success stories to emerge from Project Divert is Marvin’s. He, his siblings, and his mother were in an abusive home situation, facing an uncertain future. Traditionally, they would have been referred to a domestic violence shelter, but The Lord’s Place’s diversion case manager took the time to explore alternative solutions. Through careful discussions, they discovered that Marvin’s grandmother in New York was willing to take them in.
With the help of Project Divert, Marvin and his family received bus tickets to safely relocate, and they were transported to the Greyhound station to begin their new life. Upon arrival, they expressed deep gratitude for the intervention that helped them find security and hope for the future.
Ensuring Sustainability for the Future
Project Divert is a finite initiative that will run through March 2026, but its impact will extend far beyond. The Lord’s Place is actively working to secure additional funding to integrate these crucial diversion services into their broader Street Outreach and Engagement program. They have already received a $250,000 grant from the Palm Beach County Community Services Department and are pursuing further funding to expand their reach.
